At Feeding the Change, we are committed to advancing scientific knowledge and disseminating impactful research. Explore our recent contribution in the Journal of Health Communication, where we deeply examine the implementation of the “Emo-Demos” behavior change technique within the Transform Nutrition Project. Our paper, titled “Leveraging Emotion for Behavior Change: Lessons from Implementation of the ‘Emo-Demo’ Behavior Change Technique in Rural Mozambique”, investigates the feasibility and acceptability of Emo-Demos for implementers and targeted community members in rural Mozambique. The study aims to draw valuable lessons for applying similar highly interactive Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) approaches in resource-poor settings.
Emo-Demos are engaging, game-like group activities designed to trigger emotional responses linked to specific behaviors. Employing “Eco-Evo” communication principles, these sessions incorporate key elements like grabbing attention, communicating benefits, sparking emotions, challenging social norms, instilling confidence, and enabling performance. Each session unfolds along a dramatic arc, utilizing specific props and a semi-scripted, user-friendly guide to maintain consistent quality. The ultimate objective is to present information in a non-traditional manner, capturing people’s attention and inspiring an intention to take action.
