Food Environment Analysis

Activities / Services:

  • Development of the study protocol and data collection tools;
  • Coordination of the bioethical approval process; Implementation of the entire data collection process;
  • Data analysis;
  • Final Reporting;
  • Organization of interactive in-person and remote workshops in Portuguese and English for different audiences (community-based organizations, government, donors, and other stakeholders);
  • Writing scientific papers for publication. Data collection included a survey of market consumers representative of all markets in Nampula and Zambézia provinces, a survey of market actors (retailers, wholesalers, distributors, transporters), in-depth interviews with market chiefs, market conditions assessment, focus group discussions with community members and market retailers, and an assessment of food availability and prices using the Cost of the Diet methodology.

Project Summary:

FTF RESINA aims to promote food security for households within the designated Resilience Zone of Influence in Nampula and Zambezia provinces. The Food Environment Analysis is directly linked to Intermediate Result 3 (IR 3) of the project, focusing on enhancing nutrition outcomes among women, adolescent girls, and young children through dietary improvement and women’s empowerment. The food environment analysis plays a pivotal role in achieving the objectives outlined in IR 3 by informing strategies and activities that promote improved diets and empowerment of women, adolescent girls, and young children.
